CREDIT CARDS
Most hotels, restaurants, shops and taxis accept major credit cards; however,
it is recommended that visitors also carry small amounts of cash at all times.
CLIMATE
Marseille has a Mediterranean climate, with mild, humid winters and hot, dry
summers; clothing should be suitable for mild weather. The average daytime
temperature in Marseille in October is 20ºC/68ºF.
CURRENCY
The French currency is the Euro.
ELECTRICITY
France, like most other European countries, has 220 volt current and uses
2-pin plugs. Visitors from the UK and Ireland will require an adaptor plug
for appliances, from 3-pin to 2-pin, whereas visitors from North America will
require a transformer plug in order to use 110/125V appliances.
EMERGENCIES & MEDICAL CARE
To contact the police, fire department or medical response in an emergency,
dial 112. Emergency medical care is supplied by the municipal authorities.
Venue and hotel staff members can direct guests to local emergency centres,
hospitals or dental clinics.
The E111 form is no longer valid. Delegates will need a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to receive necessary healthcare during a visit to a European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland.
INSURANCE
It is recommended that participants arrange personal health, accident and
travel insurance. The Conference organiser will not accept liability for personal
injury or loss of / damage to property or belongings of participants or accompanying
persons, either before, during or following the conference, tours or their
stay in Marseille.
LANGUAGE
The language in Marseille is French. The official language of the conference
is English.
TRANSPORT
Air:
The city is served by an international airport, Aéroport de Marseille
Provence, with direct connections to 91 cities in 37 countries via 30 regular
airlines and 5 “low cost” airlines. There are 26 daily flights
Paris/Marseille (journey time of 1 hour and 20 minutes). Passenger information

The airport has a new terminal “mp2” dedicated to low-cost flights. See www.mp2.aeroport.fr for further information.
There are shuttles every 20 minutes between the airport and the city. The
journey time is 30 minutes and a single ticket costs €8.50. There are
also taxis to the city from the airport. The fare should cost approximately
€40 during the day and €50 at night.

Public Transport from Marseille-Provence Airport to the World Trade Center:
Shuttle bus to the Gare St-Charles train station, then 1 station by metro
to Colbert (no change) or 2 stations by metro to Vieux Port.
Train:
The main railway station is Gare St-Charles, which is also one of the main
terminal stations for the TGV in the south of France. There are 17 daily TGV
connections Paris / Marseille and the journey time is 3 hours. Passenger information

There is direct access to the metro and bus network from the Gare St-Charles.
Public Transport from Gare St-Charles to the World Trade Center:
From the train station, 1 station by underground to Colbert (no change) or
2 stations by underground to Vieux Port (no change).
Local Public Transport:
Marseille is connected by the metro train system consisting of 2 lines represented
by orange and blue. Both lines of the metro intersect at Gare St-Charles.
An extensive bus network serves the city and suburbs of Marseille, and the
first phase of a new tramway was opened in summer 2007.
Transport at World Trade Center:
Metro station at the main entrance, “Colbert” or “Vieux
Port”.
Permanent taxi stand.
VISAS
Visitors from EU countries do not need a visa to enter France. Visitors
from other countries should check visa requirements with the French embassy
in their home countries.
